Imuna is a proud descendent of the Anangu people of the Pitjantjatjara & Yankunytjatjara language groups in the Central Desert of the continent known since invasion, as Australia.

Her roots also unfurl from her European and Tunisian ancestry, which in their merging lead her feet on a complex path of belonging and connection to country.

Former Lives

Raised by yogis and Shakespearean actors on a mountain ridge in Yugambeh Country, Imuna grew up mostly barefoot, homeschooled, in love with horses and with a keen dedication to classical dance - a paradox that would eventually see ballet propel her out of country living into largely independent life by the age of 14 in the big smoke of Naarm (Melbourne.)

After graduating from VCASS & the Australian Ballet School, she travelled extensively worldwide, branching out beyond classical dance into collaborations of dance, song and performance art, along with photographic and runway modelling/creative direction.

Ever curious about human existence through different lenses, Imuna has explored a myriad of names, titles & lifestyles along the way…

Among the colourful included living consciously without money in New York City, residing in different spiritual communities throughout Central America, modelling in Occupied Palestine & traveling for years on the road on different lands in various vehicles or hitch hiking with just a backpack. From go go dancing in Berlin to being an artist’s muse in Mexico City to co-coordinating political campaigns for Elder relatives, and frontline activism at actions such as the Bentley Blockade & Uranium mines back home on these Southern lands.

Group ceremonial facilitation and healing arts have been a common thread throughout her work life. Imuna is a proud, radical advocate for Indigenous social justice, human rights for all peoples and has been on the frontlines of environmental activism since childhood.

We are all free when everyone is free

Identity

Imuna learned she was descendent from Desert mob at 19 when her Grandfather in his late years started sharing what had been held in silence for generations. Over her years on other lands with other people’s Elders she began having dreams of her Grandmother’s calling her home. She eventually realised that she had been moving fast and far because of the pain of not knowing how to be with her bloodline to Country & in reality her feet longed to return to Country, to reconnect the dots of her family story and to align more closely with her ancestral ways of living.

Maiden to Mother

Imuna’s fulfilling & undisturbed experience giving birth to her 3 children at home deepened her sense of purpose and embodied wisdom. Birthing with the in person cultural care & blessing of her Elder’s led her to dedicate her focus to undisturbed birth advocacy & support for women along the continuum of the female experience.

Imuna’s work is rooted in the understanding that it is a woman’s birthright to experience undisturbed birth & a community supported postpartum, as an expression of her innate physiology. Imuna is dedicated to reminding women & families and specifically her Indigenous community that they can and are DESIGNED to birth on country in full power.
